FAQs

Will Dr. Narayan be my primary care physician?

Dr. Narayan provides Functional & Integrative medicine services via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video service. Your healthcare is a team effort. Functional & Integrative Medicine play a different position on this “team.” It is recommended that members maintain a primary care provider for routine screening exams like pap smears, age-related screenings such as mammogram, bone scan, and colonoscopy, vaccinations, and emergent same-day care that might require immediate assistance or hospitalization.

Do you accept insurance?

We don’t bill insurance. This provides the freedom to choose your best path to wellness without the restraint of red tape. We choose to keep our services simple and transparent. If you do carry a PPO insurance policy, fees may be covered as an out-of-network provider. Upon request, a properly coded “superbill” itemizing services will be provided to submit for reimbursement according to your individual policy. We don’t submit claims or call insurance companies directly. This is the responsibility of the patient. Depending on your insurance carrier and type of plan, a portion may be covered. Alternatively, you may also be able to use FSA/HSA funds to pay for services. Consult with your insurance provider for more details.

We don’t participate with Medicare, nor bill Medicare for visits with Dr. Narayan.  A patient CANNOT submit superbills to Medicare for reimbursement. Dr. Narayan CAN order standard labs through Quest and LabCorp that are billed through Medicare. There are select specialty functional labs that are also covered by Medicare.

Do I need health insurance if I have a Fixed membership?

This will vary from state to state. In California, you are required to maintain health insurance, or alternatively a health share or co-op. A Fixed membership does not satisfy this requirement. We suggest considering health shares as a lower cost alternative to insurance, giving added flexibility with your healthcare dollars.

Do you have a family plan?

Unfortunately, we do not. The amount of time to see each patient does not change, whether an adult, teen, or child. For every hour of face-to-face time with the doctor, there is even more time devoted to researching your medical concerns, reviewing medical history, lab interpretation, portal messages, documentation, etc. before and after the visit.

What can I expect with lab and imaging orders?

Labs and imaging ordered through Quest or Labcorp can be billed directly to your insurance, unless you don’t have out-of-network coverage.  For those without lab coverage, Dr. Narayan has partnered with both Labcorp and Quest to offer a lower, fixed cost for routine labwork.

Specialty labs may be covered by insurance. You may also be able to use FSA/HSA funds. Please check with your insurance company regarding deductibles and reimbursement for out-of-network Specialty labs.
